The Northern Knights Soccer Team had another rewarding year. The team numbers have fluctuated over the year with a couple of new members joining last fall and a couple leaving the team over the summer. The team was coached once again by Andy Bjerke. Team management has changed over the year. Karen Sparrow resigned her position. Ann Bjerke and Heather Morris provided interim assistance. In the spring Sheila Ramsay and Doug Larsen took on the job and are currently trying to get up to speed.
The team had regular weekly practices throughout the year. They participated in the soccer camps in January, May, and August. During the year, exhibition games were played against the other rep teams and against the Men’s Oldtimer Team. In April the Northern Knights participated in the annual Juneau exchange; this year they traveled to Juneau. The boys placed second and fourth in the tournament. In September the Team traveled to Burnaby, B.C. to take part in the Wesburn Youth Soccer Tournament. Over the weekend they played six games. They had 3 wins, 1 tie, and 2 losses; placing fourth at the end of the tournament. The boys were proud of their efforts. One of their losses (1-2) was to the B.C. Provincial Team who went on to take the gold. Fundraising activities for the year included:
Bingos: As in the past the Northern Knights would like to run the concession at the 2001 Fun Fair. We wish to thank the Yukon Soccer Association for its continued support to the boys and the coach of this team. It is very much appreciated. We would also like to thank you for your patience with the new management as we ‘get on our feet’. We look forward to another year of growth in skills, competition, sportsmanship, and respect for the game of soccer.
Yours Sincerely,
Sheila Ramsay and Doug Larsen
