Canada Summer Games Women

This last year we traveled to Minnesota for the USA Cup. We traveled with 14 players and played in the trophy flight division.

The reasons we chose this tournament were:

Higher level of competition than invitational tournaments
1 week tournament structure similar to that of Canada Games
Experience of opening ceremonies and all of the hype that goes along with it.
Opportunity of being scouted by colleges/universities in US and Canada
Student information forum for those athletes trying to decide which school they would like to attend. This has coach information, how to get noticed, how to chose a school, etc.
Coach’s information. Opportunity to be a part of the American Coaches Association, which then gives you an opportunity to be a part of US coaching seminars. I am now a member of the Association.

The competition was great. Our girls who traveled stepped up and played better than we could have expected them too. We were missing 5 starting players at this tournament, but you wouldn’t have known it with watching the team play. They took charge on the field.

Game Record: Won 3, lost 3.

All of our players who are outside are now playing on college, university, or rec. teams.

The players in town will be practicing Sundays 7-9pm at Vanier for the winter.

Fundraising plans for the winter include a bingo and book/bottle drives.

We plan to return to Minnesota next year for back to back tournaments of the All American Girls and USA Cup before traveling to Canada Games.
