INTRODUCTION
The Men's U20 Canada Games Team's objective is to represent the Yukon at the 2001 CanadaSummer Games which take place in London, Ontario from August 18 - 25. Such representation has not been possible for 25 years due to the lack of players and coaches. Both John MacPhail and Pat Westberg thought the time had once more arrived. We finally had enough players: 30 in all showed interest in the fall of 1999. So, with no other coaches or managers coming forth at the time, we put the ball in motion.

TRAINING
October, 1999 through to April, 2000 John MacPhail held indoor practices at Jack Hulland School. Throughout the winter, games were played against the Selects and men's teams. An exhibition soccer game took place December 17, 1999 with both men's CSG and women's CSG teams displaying their talents to a packed house at Vanier School. A fun night was enjoyed by all. May through July, 2000, outdoor training was held at Jack Hulland field twice a week (other fields were spoken for at the time), with the occasional use of FH Collins track for team running and endurance trials. During the months of June and July, 2000 a few scrimmage games were held against the Selects and men's teams at both Porter Creek Secondary School and FH Collins.

TOURNAMENT
August, 2000, the U20 Men's Canada Games squad participated in the Kamloops invitational soccer tournament (men's competitive division). This took place August 5-7, 2000. Sixteen players, one manager, two assistant coaches and two adult drivers attended this tournament. The team had three games total and showed very well against the strong competition. (Game 1: Victoria 4-1; Game 2: DC United 9-0; Game 3: NorVan 5-1.) The tournament was an eyeopener for the squad. Despite their age, size and 42 Celcius temperatures they had to endure, they came out of the tournament feeling very positive and remarking about how much they had learned. In spite of the long bus ride, the players felt it was well worth it.

AUGUST CAMP, AUGUST 22-26
The camp was well-attended by the team: 14 member participated. (Some members were already off to university.) It was a great all-around camp, especially the goal-tending session.

TEAM REQUIREMENTS
In May, 2000, John MacPhail upgraded his Level Three coaching and "C" license certificate. (This is a requirement of CSG). October 2, 2000, Pat Westberg completed his Level One Coaching theory and is scheduled for Level Two theory in November. (This training is required by the Yukon Soccer Board).
