SOCCER ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT

This is a summary of the events that the Yukon Soccer Association held, or took part in, since the 1999 Annual General Meeting.

NOVEMBER

Elks Soccer Tournament - A U9 tournament was held at Vanier School, to recognize the official opening of the AWG plexi-glass wall, donated by the Whitehorse Elks.

Trials for the 2000 Arctic Winter Games - Trials were held for the 4 Yukon teams (Junior Boys and Girls, Juvenile Boys and Girls). Trials were held at Vanier school.

Recognition Evening - A Recognition Evening was held at the Goldrush Inn. YSA thanked sponsors, coaches, volunteers etc.

YSA Newsletter Out - YSA published it's quarterly newsletter with updates on coming events, activities, clinics etc.

Sport Yukon AGM - YSA president attended and presented a report on YSA's activities for the past year.

DECEMBER

Mayo Coaching Clinic - YSA conducted it's first Community Coach Certificate Course. Six new coaches were certified in Mayo. Course conductor was Dave White.

JANUARY

Representative Team Sanctioning begins - All interested Representative Team coaches meet with the YSA Executive between January 15 and February 15 of each year to present their year plans and apply to be sanctioned.

Carmacks Tournament - A Regional tournament was held in Carmacks for players in the U11 division.

FEBRUARY

 
 

Technical Director - YSA applied for and received funding, wrote job description, advertized and attempted to hire a Technical Director. YSA was unsuccessful in hiring a Technical Director.

Representative Team Camp - A camp was held for Rep team members, conducted by Sean Fleming and Paul Kelly of the Alberta Soccer Association.

Field Users Meeting - YSA representatives attended a meeting for field users in the City of Whitehorse and presented YSA's requests for fields for Rep. Teams and special events.

Rendezvous Fun Fair - Sanctioned teams worked the Fun Fair and raised money for travel expenses. This was a very successful fundraiser, held at Whitehorse Elementary School.

Canada Summer Games Raffle - YSA conducted a raffle to raise funds for CSG and local rep teams.

Arctic Winter Games - The four Yukon teams competed in the Games, held in Whitehorse. Juvenile females won bronze, Junior Females one silver, and Junior males placed fourth.

Submission of City of Whitehorse Funding - YSA applied for funding for equipment purchase and Technical Director support. Only the funding for the Technical Director was granted.

Submission of YRAC funding request - The Yukon Soccer Association applied for funding for Leadership Development, Athlete Development, Administration and Facility O & M

NorthwesTel Indoor Yukon Championships - Yukon Championships were held in Whitehorse, in a variety of locations. Affiliates from 7 Yukon communities attended.

APRIL

Juneau Exchange - This year, the girls teams competed in Whitehorse and the boys teams competed in Juneau.

Referee Clinics - Youth Competitive, Youth Recreational and Class III referee clinics were held in preparation for the outdoor season. Course conductor was Brian Gillen

WMS hires Coordinator - The Sport Administrator position was split between YSA and WMS. WMS hired Hanne Hoefs as their Coordinator.

Community Coaches Clinic (Instructors) - Sean Fleming of ASA, conducted a certification course for Instructors of the new Community Coach Certificate. Dave White, John MacPhail and Andy Bjerke were certified as instructors.

CSG 2001 Men’s ID Camp - An identification camp was held for those interested in the CSG Men's team.

Community Coach Certificate – Youth - A CCC – Youth clinic was held in Whitehorse. 12 Coaches were certified with the Community Coach Certificate – Youth. Course conductor was Dave White.

JUNE

Rep Team Camp - The annual June Camp was conducted by Sean Fleming and Paul Kelly for Yukon Representative Teams.

CSA AGM – Allison, Ontario

McDonald’s Full Field Championships - Full Field Championships were held in Whitehorse. 26 teams participated in 2 Divisions.

McDonald’s Cross Field Championships - Cross-field Championships were held in Whitehorse. 65 teams competed in 8 divisions.

Gold Rush Invitational - Only boys teams participated in this tournament due to a lack of registrations. Three teams from Juneau traveled to attend this event.

AUGUST

Application for YSA Elite Athlete Scholarship ($100) - This scholarship was not awarded as there were no applicants this year.

Kamloops Invitational - YSA sent three teams (Men, Women, CSG boys) to the 10th Annual Kamloops Invitational Soccer Tournament, with funding assistance from Lotteries Yukon.

Creation of Officials Database

A database of Yukon referees was created to track certification, contact info and availability.

Representative Team Camp - A week-long camp was held for YSA Rep teams. Sean Fleming, Paul Kelly and Carole Fowler conducted the camp.

Deadline for National Championships Registration - YSA prepared the documentation for registration of a Men's team in the Challenge Cup (National Club Championships, Open age)

SEPTEMBER

 
 

National Championships Preparation - YSA dealt extensively with administration for travel to National Championships i.e. special permissions, team and player registration, accommodations, travel arrangements, player i.d. etc.

Northern Flames Mini-Tournament - The Northern Flames U13 Girls hosted a tournament with Juneau and local teams participating.

Indoor referee clinic - Brian Gillen conducted a refresher course for indoor soccer referees.

Community Coach Certificate -- Child - A Coaching clinic was scheduled for this weekend, but was cancelled due to low registration.

4th Yukon Elementary Schools Championships (outdoor) - The School Championships were held in Whitehorse. Only elementary schools participated due to lack of interest from high schools. 14 teams from 12 schools participated.
