Yukon Selects

The aim of the Yukon Selects soccer team is to provide outstanding youth players with the opportunity to compete at a higher level. To develop better players, competition is important. The program also gives younger players a team to look up to. It may inspire them to work harder so that they too may become a Select one day.

The Selects have done well in two tournaments in 1999. In March they impressed in an indoor tourney in Prince George. Before the trip, the Whitehorse Star from March 12, 1999, had the following article: Former English Soccer pro helps Yukon team (with a nice action photo of Simon Pulido). And you can read about their success here: Prince George Success Story.

Alaska State Champions
The Yukon Selects are Alaska State Champions. This is an impressive result for a newly formed team and program. The tournament was held August 20-22, 1999. The Whitehorse Star has the before story with a picture, Yukon Selects off to Alaska championships in it's archives. It also has the after story Yukon Selects are Alaska soccer champs.

The Yukon News has an article from September 1, 1999 about Dennis Taylor's part in the Selects and about the Alaska championship drive: Expat steers Selects to success
