Yukon Soccer Association wishes to clarify the following on the matter of the wearing of turbans. Yukon Soccer Association abides by and follows the International Football Board (IFAB) and Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) guidance on this matter.
By way of background, in September 2012, International Football Board (IFAB), soccer’s law making body, decided to “…agreed to unanimously approve – temporarily during a trial period – the wearing of headscarves.” Following that, in March 2013, the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) Board decided that, in light of this decision, referees may, until further notice, extend this ruling to the wearing of turbans/patkas/keski. This was communicated by the CSA to all Provincial and Territorial Soccer Associations in April 2013.
Clearly a turban/any head covering must be safe and must not pose a danger to the wearer or other participants, as per Law 4 of the FIFA Laws of the Game. All items of Basic equipment or Other equipment are subject to the inspection of a match referee.
